Listen to the lambs, originally composed by R. Nathaniel Dett. Dett was a Canadian-American Black composer, musician, poet, and professor. R. Nathaniel Dett wrote ‘Listen to the Lambs’ as an anthem to the turmoil of a people for the long-promised American Dream. That he felt, was impossible to achieve in his lifetime. Revered as the first American composer to fuse Negro folk music with European musical influence. R. Nathaniel Dett lived from 1882-1943
